ANECARE’S ANEclear NAMED TOP UTAH MEDICAL DEVICE INNOVATION FOR 2008
Salt Lake City, UT – May 29, 2008 – Anecare’s ANEclear anesthetic reversal device has been selected as the top medical device innovation at the sixth annual Utah Innovation Awards, presented by Stoel Rives LLP and the Utah Technology Council.
The ANEclear was selected from numerous entries by a committee of more than 60 experts from Utah’s private industry, government and academic communities, and was honored as the top medical device innovation for 2008.
“This program has become the premiere industry building event in Utah,” said Scott Young, Utah Innovations Awards Program co-chairman. “We recognize the incredible innovations that are contributing to the growth of our industries and honor the companies and people behind them.”
“This award is truly reflective of the great people at Anecare and their innovative way of thinking,” said Mike Slatter, CEO and president of Anecare Inc. “Dr. Dwayne Westenskow, Dr. Joe Orr and Dr. Derek Sakata have worked for years to develop a way to improve a patient’s recovery from general inhaled anesthesia and the ANEclear is the first of several products to accomplish that goal.”
The ANEclear actively eliminates inhaled anesthetic from a patient. This approach is unique in that historically there has been no way to actively remove inhaled anesthetics from the body. Until now, the anesthetic had to “wear off” of the patient after turning off the gas. Approximately 23 million surgical procedures are performed annually in the United States involving inhaled anesthetics.
“We have found that progressive, peri-operatively minded anesthesiologists are eager to embrace the ANEclear because they understand the benefit of taking an active role in their patients’ recovery,” said Slatter. “The ANEclear actively removes the inhaled anesthetic from a patient, and by doing so, reduces the patient’s time in the operating and recovery rooms. This is especially important for overweight or elderly patients who tend to have higher complications from anesthesia.”
The ANEclear has been used on over 5,000 patients at hospitals and clinics around the country, and has been the subject of numerous published studies. This is the third award that Anecare has received for the ANEclear.
